21 November 1891), Major John Owen Leach, M.C., R.C.A.F. (born 17 September 1893, killed flying in Ontario July 1930) and William Buck Leach (born 26 October 1894.) Frederick Hugh Leach was the eventual heir of Corston, but sold it to his cousin. 6. Sir Edmund Leach, born Robeston Wathen 28 November 1836, baptized 14 December. Educated at Sandhurst, he commenced a distinguished army career as an ensign in the 50th Foot, 6 November 1854 (and as such surrendered the keys of Sebastopol). He became Lieutenant 6 April 1855, adjutant 27 September 1861, captain 12 April 1864, and lieutenant- colonel on 7 March 1876. Major-general Leach was subsequently colonel of the Queen's Own. He died at Bath 7 August 1923 aged 86, and was buried at Brompton. He married at St. Saviour's, Chelsea 29 April 1869 Frances Elizabeth, 2nd daughter of W. H. Ince of Kensington, who sur- vived him, and had two sons: i. Brigadier General Sir Edmund Burleigh Leach C.B. (1919) C.M.G. (1915) C.V.O. (1920). This distinguished officer was born at his mother's home, 27, Thurloe Square, South Kensington on 18 July 1870. Educated at Uppingham and Sandhurst, he became a 2nd lieutenant in the Northumberland Fusiliers, 1 May 1891, and as a young officer served in the Far East, and in the Boer war. In 1908 he became a major in the South Wales Borderers and was wounded at Gheluvelt in the 1st war. In 1922, invalided out of the army, he succeeded his aunt at Corston, joining the Pembrokeshire Farmers' Club and becoming a county magistrate in 1925, deputy lieutenant in 1932 and High Sheriff in 1933. He died without issue 16 August 1936, ending the Leach association with Pembrokeshire, not least with its sporting life. His first marriage which took place at Singapore 3 December 1895 to Florence Edith Victoria, daughter of Lt. Col. W. Fitzalan Way, of the 5th Fusiliers was dissolved in 1921. Both parties remarried a year later, she to Edward Percy Simpson and he to Dorothy Carwithen (O.B.E.) daughter of Rev. W. Berkeley Dowding of Ugborough, Devon; she in 1942 married Capt. Lionel Havercroft Green M.B.E. of The Whittern, Lyonshall, Herefordshire. ii. William Robert Ronald Leach, commander R.N. born 3 April 1883, younger brother of Sir Edmund, married 7 June 1906 Gwladys, daughter of Graham Graham-Parry. Their daughter, Rosemary Elizabeth (born 1 I January 1908) became on 26 October 1933 the wife of Captain Alexander George Bennett (eldest son of A. R. Bennett of Thornbury Park, Gloucs.) 7. William Leach, born at Ddol 20 March 1837, baptized 18 April. He too pursued a military career, obtaining a second lieutenancy in the 5th Fusiliers. He became captain of the 45th Foot, 16 January 1863. Major Leach's subsequent career was clouded by mental illness. He died un- married at Sandwell Park, Cheltenham, 23 May 1874. 8. Bladen Leach, born at Clifton 27 January 1839, baptized 25 February. He died at Clifton 23 March 1840. 9. Frederick Leach, born at Pembroke 28 July 1843, baptized 30 August. He became a senior clerk in the War Office and died in London 27 February 1916. He was buried at St. Michael's Cemetery, Pembroke. I have pleasure in acknowledging the assistance and encouragement of Lt Col. R. J. H. Lloyd, O.B.E., T.D., D.L., of Ffynnon Deilo, Pendoylan, who supplied me with his notes on his Leach ancestors. I also wish to record my gratitude to the Keeper of MSS and Records and his staff at the National Library of Wales for access to the ten uncatalogued boxes of Corston, MSS in their custody, and to my friends Maj. Francis Jones, C.V.O., Wales Herald, and Mr. Peter Dawkins Palmour for their assistance on several points.
