THIRTY-EIGHTH ANNUAL REPORT 1967-1968 The Annual General Meeting of the Society was held at the County Education Centre, Llandrindod Wells, on Saturday, 23rd November, 1968, the President taking the Chair. About 45 members were present at the Meeting. Executive Committee. The Executive Committee has met on three occasions in the course of the year, viz. on November 11th, 1967, and on April 6th and October 12th, 1968. Membership. The position at 30th September, 1968, was very satis- factory, the total number of members being 384. This total is made up of 191 individual members, 79 joint memberships, and 35 institutional members. Last year's record 363 total has therefore been improved upon. It is with regret that we have to report the loss of the following mem- bers, who died in the course of the year Professor J. H. Hutton (New Radnor), Mr. W. Emlyn Jones (Llandrindod Wells) and Miss I. M. Stoddart (Presteigne). Lectures. Three lectures were arranged between November 1967 and March 1968. At Llandrindod Wells Professor R. J. C. Atkinson lectured on "Stone- henge" at Presteigne Professor E. G. Bowen lectured on "The Drovers of Wales" and at Rhayader General R. S. Lewis lectured on "The Cwmdeuddwr Manors". All three lectures were well attended. Details of the lectures arranged for this winter have been circulated to members. Following the Annual General Meeting Mr. E. D. Jones, Librarian of the National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth, spoke on the subject of "The National Library and Radnorshire" in March Miss Dorothy Sylvester is to visit Presteigne, where she will speak on "Rural Radnorshire character and origins of settlement patterns" and also in March, Mr. Clifford Hubbard, an expert on dogs, will be coming to Llandrindod Wells to speak on "The dog in history". The lectures will be illustrated with slides. The Committee also has under consideration the question of arranging a lecture (or lectures) on the Cistercian Order and the Abbey of Cwmhir, together with a visit to the site. It was agreed that a programme should be arranged for September, 1969. The Committee would like to thank the County Council and the Local Education Authority for making accommodation in the County Education Centre, Presteigne Grammar School, and the County Hall available to the Society for holding lecture meetings. A special debt of thanks is also due to General Lewis who personally engaged a hall in Rhayader for his talk.
