A NOTE ON RADNORSHIRE POWELLS IN AMERICA By A. D. POWELL In Vol. XLII (1972) of our Transactions, some account was given of Thomas Joseph Powell (1787-1859), who emigrated to America in 1817, and founded a family at White Eyes Creek, Coshocton, Ohio, U.S.A. He was the 3rd son of William Powell, of the Broadheath, Presteigne, steward to the earls of Oxford. Thomas Joseph Powell's elder brother, John Hunt Powell (2nd son of Lord Oxford's steward), of Broadheath House, Presteigne, in 1814 had a son, John Powell (b. 1 Oct., bapt. Presteigne 11 Oct. 1812) who also emigrated to Coshocton, Ohio. This was the Revd. John Powell, who, with his first-cousin Joseph Powell of White Eyes (1816-1892), founded the Methodist Church of Converse (formerly Xenia), Indiana, U.S.A. The Revd. John Powell, of Coshocton and Converse, married Adele Morel, of Calais, France, and had ten children. These had many subsequent descendants. His children were 1. John Powell (b. in England 'near London') of Kansas. 2. William Powell. 3. Richard Hemmings Powell, of Coshocton; m. Artemisia Norris had issue. 4. Henry Powell, of Swazee and Blufton, Indiana mar. 5. Francis Powell, mar had issue. 6. James Powell, of Converse mar. twice had issue 7. Ann Powell, m. Willcutts, of Indianapolis and Chicago had issue. 8. Mary Powell. 9. Margaret Powell. 10. Adele Powell. Mrs. Twila Irene Powell, wife of Mr. R. L. Powell, of 1437 Shawnee. Bartlesville, Oklahoma 74003, U.S.A., possesses records of Powells, descended from the Revd. John Powell, of whom her husband is one, Mrs. Bernard Douglass (nee Glennis Powell) of RRI., Converse, Indiana, U.S.A. has up-to-date records of the Thomas Joseph Powell line.
