About three miles eastward of Ruthin, between the two roads that lead to Mold, is a high conical hill, called Moel Fenlli, on the summit of which is a strong earth¬ work, forming one of the six fortifications of a similar character that crown the Clwydian heights on that side of the country. From some excavations made in it in the year 1849, traces were discovered of its having been occupied at different times, and by different races of people. Among these traces the most ancient and interesting was a stone knife, which the writer of the present paper was fortunate enough to throw up.
