Morgan Jones, LI an* diuam, examined the Llanidloes Church Sunday School, on Sunday, June 30th, and the following is bis report: — 14 This school passed a very creditable examination. It was evident that the scholars had been carefully taught in all the subjects according to the Diocesan Syllabus and passed in all. The recitation and sing¬ ing deserves special praise." RURI-DECANAJL CHAPTER. A Ruri-Decanal Chapter was held at Llandinam Village on Thursday, July 11th. The minutes of the previous Chapter were presented, jpassed and confirmed. The followiugresolutions and suggestions were passed : —" Resolved, by the Clergy in Chapter assembled at Llandinam Vicarage on July Iltb, 1901, that the Clergy think that it is highly desirable to amalgamate <the Queen Anne's Bounty Board with the Ecclesias¬ tical Commission, because, in their view it would of necessity reduce the expenditure in connection with the the administration of the Funds." "It is sug¬ gested that easier terms might with advantage be allowed when loans are granted " The Clergy pre¬ sent were :—Rev Morgan Jones, R.D.,Vicar of Llan¬ dinam, Rev- T. H. O. Harding, Curate of Llanwnog, Rev- T. E. .Jones, Vicar of Carno. T. EVAN JONES, Chapter Clerk. LLANIDLOES. On Thursday, the 31st of July, a Garden Fete was held at Maenol in aid of the Church 6f England Homes for Waifs and Strays. The idea was only mooted a fortuight previously, when a committee was called by Miss Lloyd-Verney, but thanks first of all to Colonel and Mrs Lea Jones, who worked hard and entered into the work with great enthusiasm, the fete was even a greater success than was anticipated. The programme was a long one, but with one or two minor exceptions, it was carried through entirely. Fortunately the day was perfect, and Maenol, always pretty, looked its best, with its lawns Jike velvet, and Porders full of flowers- Tea was served on email tables under tbe trees, and the crowds who flocked there kept the ladies working hard until their store came to an end. The chief attraction, however, were the concerts organised by Mr. R. M. Davies. All the very best local talent came forward most*willingly to assist, and the result was complete success. The croquet lawn, shut in by high elms, made an ideal concert chamber, and out door singing being quite a new experience to most of the artistes, they are to be congratulated heartily ou their success, especially the three ladies who took part. Tennis matches do not appeal to the majority, but all will be glad to know that the Llanidloes champions, Messrs. K. D Davies, Llewelyn Phillips, J. M. Kerr, and H. D. Webb were a good match for their Newtown opponents. The cyclist parade in fancy costume was not a large one, but the notice was short and dresses and characters are not easily decided on. However, the members of the new cycling club did their best, and the prize¬ winner* were very popular. Strange that the ex¬ cellent representation of Mr Kmger was allowed to escape! The " F;ihcy " and " Flowers " stalls did well, and were very pretty, the latter haviug eggs, butter, aud fruit besides flowers to sell The lady palmist in her grotto was most amiable and had many visitors. Harry Williams' •* Aunt Sally " was not as well patronised as it should have been, but that was doubtless owing to the heat. In a quiet corner Ed. Derry and Ernest Jouets worked harder than anyono to earn their many halfpennies at the swing Dancing took place at intervals, and the Newtown Band, who we are glad to know will be often here during the next few weeks, did their work splendidly. Just before leaving some fire balloons were let off and sailed away to tell all Arwystli how well all la I passed off. There was no time for speeches, other¬ wise more than hearty thanks and cheers would have been given to Colonel and Mrs Lea Jones, Miss Lloyd Verney, and other promoters for the pleasant afternoon and evening. Miss Lloyd-Verney especially was indefatigable, aud as secretary for the Deanery is to be congratulated on raising close on £30 for tht* Society. Mrs. Lea Jones is president of the local branch, which is in a verj' flourishing state, and her young band of helpers worked with a will at tho fete, Following is a list of helpers given in the official programme (printed by " Waifs and Strays ") but to be complete it should contain mauy more names : — Fancy Stall; Mrs Davies, London aud Provincial Bank, Mrs Hughes, Llangurig Vicarage, Mrs Tones, Llanidloes Vicarage, Miss Edith Eansey; Flower Stall : Miss Grant, Miss Marshall, Misses Ida and Katie Paull; Tea Stall: Miss Davies. Djlenog, Misj Kerr, Miss May amor.
