OLD WALES. No. i. 1906. Vol. 2. A HEREFORDSHIRE COURTIER. Among the many Welshmen who obtained places at Court in the times of the Georges was Major William Price. His great-grandfather was the famous Robert Price, Baron of the Exchequer (see Great Sessions), who was a native of Denbighshire, but became of Foxley, in Herefordshire, jure uxor is, and whose eldest and only surviving son, Uvedale Price, married Anne daughter and co-heiress of Lord Arthur Somerset, and was succeeded at his death by his only sur¬ viving child, Robert Price of Foxley. This gentleman made an advantageous marriage with the Hon. Sarah Barrington, daughter of John first Viscount Barrington. Her brother, William the second Viscount, was a well-known politician of his day, being many years Secretary at WTar, whose in¬ fluence was sufficient to obtain for his brother Shute the Bishopric of Llandaff, and afterwards of Durham, and to secure the appointment of Second Justice of Chester for another brother, Daines. Robert Price had a large family, and his eldest son, Sir Uvedale Price, was created Baronet in 1828, and was father of Sir Robert Price, who was M.P. for Herefordshire for many years (see Herefordshire Members).
